Poached pears

Ingredients:

  1. Lemon 1
  2. Orange 1
  3. Vanilla beans ¼ teaspoon
  4. Vanilla extract
  5. Cinnamon 1 stick
  6. Cloves 5
  7. Sugar ¾ cup
  8. Ripe pears 4
  9. Red wine 1 ½ cups

Method:

  • First prepare juice from the lemon and half portion of the orange.
  • In a small size saucepan, mix the juices of lemon and orange, red wine, sugar or sugar substitute, vanilla beans, cloves and cinnamon sticks.
  • Add the pears in this mixture and boil the entire content gradually reducing the heat.
  • Simmer uncovered turning the pears now and then till they are soft. It will take about 25 minutes to get that softness.
  • Remove the pears from the pan and place each one on separate plates.
  • Remove the spices and orange shreds and simmer the liquid till you get syrup that looks more like honey.
  • Now pour the sauce over the poached pears and serve.
